Dialing with a modem

Set up voice telephone calls by using a modem to dial.  Pick up the phone to get a dial tone and then click a button whose script uses the dial command.  

dial "1-408-996-1010" with modem
(Uses the default modem setting "ATS0=0DT".)

Don't use modem dialing if you have another device attached to the serial port.  The Phone stack contains a 
"dial with" setting that's used by several stacks.  To change this setting, click "dial with:" on the first card of the Phone stack until the default is the Macintosh speaker.
